Laura was born in Retalhuleu, Guatemala, and raised in Reno, Nevada. In 2004, Laura and her mother immigrated to the United States. Her parents always emphasized the importance of receiving an education and working hard to reach your goals. Laura is the oldest of two and the first to attend college in the United States. As a DACA recipient, she understands the hardships that many immigrants face within the United States. Laura is passionate about serving her community and helping others.

Laura is currently a senior at the University of Nevada, Reno where she is double majoring in Political Science and International Affairs with an emphasis on international law, order, and diplomacy. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree, Laura plans to attend law school to become a civil rights and immigration attorney.

As a CHCI Intern, Laura hopes to strengthen her knowledge of the legislative process and witness the work put into it. She hopes to use this experience to serve her community better in Nevada.
