Houston native Luis Acosta is committed to utilizing his upbringing and academic pursuits to uplift his community. Driven by a profound interest in both scientific exploration and legal advocacy, he is pursuing a major in Biology, with a complementary focus on Legal Studies, at the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. 

As the first in his family to pursue higher education, Luis deeply values the transformative potential of learning and community development. He sees education as the key to empowering citizens and a thriving community. This belief fuels his drive to not only acquire knowledge, but to share it and inspire others. This active pursuit of knowledge and experience reflects Luis’s unwavering commitment to making a difference. By becoming a powerful voice for his community, Luis strives to bridge the gap between science and law to advocate for a just and equitable future. 

As a CHCI Intern, Luis is diving headfirst into the world of legislation. He’s hungry to learn the ropes of advocacy on both local and national levels. Through this experience, he hopes to refine his skills as a leader and advocate, ultimately working towards creating positive change in his community and beyond.
