Maria Davila grew up in a tight-knit Mexican household with a total family of 8 and has dedicated her academic career to improving the education system in California. She started by joining her Youth Advisory Council of District 5 in Riverside County and became the Commissioner. Then, Maria joined the California Association of Student Councils becoming the Governmental Affairs and Policy Director representing Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Currently, she is also the Chief of Policy and Legislation (K-12 education) for GENup, where she has written two bills, AB 1939 and AB 2771, regarding Chronic Absenteeism, a circumstance she faced herself, and got them passed by the governor the summer of 2024. Maria decided to apply to CHCI NextGen to strengthen her efforts and knowledge in legislation and learn further about the process of Congress!
