Maria Guadalupe Partida was raised as a first-generation Mexican-American in the border city of Laredo, Texas. Lupita’s parents migrated from Tamaulipas to Texas when they were 35 in the pursuit of educational opportunities for their children.
During her time as an undergraduate, Lupita participated in the San Antonio Ambassador program where she was afforded the opportunity to intern in the city’s District 4 council office, a predominantly Hispanic community. Engaging in constituent services, event planning, and community outreach strengthened Lupita’s passion for public service. In the Spring of 2019, Lupita studied abroad in Spain and did a service volunteering project at ACCEM, a Spanish NGO centered on defending asylum seekers and refugees. With a keen interest in international immigration policy, Lupita became the data and reporting intern for RAICES, Texas’ largest immigration services provider. With an ardent fervor for international relations and travel, Lupita is a marketing volunteer for SOS San Antonio, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting local community service and international travel to high school students.
Lupita is currently a senior at St. Mary’s University at San Antonio majoring in Political Science. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Lupita hopes to pursue a master’s degree in public policy. More specifically, Lupita’s goal is to explore education and immigration reform.
As a CHCI intern, Lupita hopes to gain insight into the legislative process, evolve as a tenacious leader, and empower the Latinx community.
