Hometown: Carolina, Puerto Rico

School: Robinson School

Melanie Torres Crespo, born in San Germán, Puerto Rico, currently attends Robinson School for her final year of high school. Coming from a family of low resources, she has proposed herself to strive to the maximum and become the first person in her home to attend college. Throughout the years, she has been able to serve as a mentor for girls interested in STEAM, vice-president of her school’s Model United Nations group, team leader of different research programs, and serve her community through different food drives and implementations of initiatives that improve their overall wellbeing. Melanie desires to be able to speak out for all those individuals who are suffering but do not possess a network of support by choosing a college career that allows her to mix her passions in STEM with Politics. CHCI NextGen introduced her to a community where students shared diverse backgrounds and circumstances; however, they all had a common goal: to revolutionize the world. Melanie now feels confident and certain that she will be able to evolve and become a leader who will serve as an inspiration for the future Latinx generation.
