Melany was born in Havana, Cuba. At the age of 14, her parents decided to give her and her little sister a better life by immigrating to the United States of America. Melany worked extremely hard to learn English as quickly as possible in order to start taking advanced classes in High School. As the first person in her family to attend college, Melany understands the importance of advancing her education and becoming a much more prepared and efficient member of society. As a college student, she ran and won her first campaign as Vice President of Services of Arizona State University. From her position of power, she focused on improving the lives of her peers and giving back to the community that helped her succeed up to this point.
Melany is currently a junior at Arizona State University majoring in Global Management, with a minor in Political Science. She is also a member of Barrett, The Honors College through which she challenges herself to become a better scholar. Her academic goal is to obtain a master’s in Global Management, with an emphasis on public policy. Her long-term goal, nevertheless, is to become a congresswoman for the state of Arizona.
As a CHCI Intern, Melany is determined to gain experience in the legislative process, so that one day she can create and influence policy. She hopes to develop strong and fruitful bonds with her fellow interns in order to learn from them and their experiences.
