Hometown: Chicago, Illinois
School: Whitney M. Young Magnet High School
Miranda Diaz is the oldest daughter of Mexican immigrants from Chicago, Illinois. Within her school, she takes on roles such as President of the Spanish Honor Society, Secretary of the Student Council, President of the Society of Women Engineers, Vice-President of Future Health Professionals (HOSA), and is involved in Science Olympiad and Latin Dance. Growing up with a lack of representation of Latinas in the STEM field, she founded Ella Puede STEM, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting and empowering young Latinas in STEM field. Miranda also works closely with the American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative (ALCSI) to raise awareness and increase access to lung cancer screenings. Driven by her passion for medicine, she hopes to major in biomedical engineering on the pre-med track to become a surgeon and medical researcher while advocating for accessible healthcare for all. CHCI NextGen reaffirmed Miranda’s commitment to dedicating her life and career to this goal, while also advocating for her Latino community in spaces where their voices may be heard for the first time.
