2024 NextGen Latino Leadership Program

Odette Romero

Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona

School: Camelback High School

Odette Romero Peña, a first-generation Mexican-American from Phoenix, Arizona, has been aware of the injustices faced by Latinos, especially immigrants, from a young age. As the daughter of a white-passing Sonoran father and a brown-skinned Pueblo mother, she quickly learned the stark differences in treatment based on appearance. Deeply identifying with her Mexican heritage, she champions Latino issues worldwide. Currently, she is the vice president of her class and plans to establish a Latino Leadership club. Through CHCI NextGen, Odette was inspired by the passion of young Latino leaders. She aspires to attend more programs aligned with CHCI’s mission and the Latino community’s goals. Odette envisions a future where she practices law and ultimately becomes a politician.
