Rebecca Leitman is from Miami, Florida. Growing up in a Hispanic hub, Rebecca experiences and appreciates cultures beyond her own through cuisine. Her mother and aunts immigrated from Ecuador to Miami when they were just teenagers, and their story continues to inspire Rebecca today. Rebecca’s Ecuadorian heritage is responsible for her interests in history, anthropology, and archeology. Rebecca’s extroverted nature inspires her to be an involved community member. Within her school, she is an editor for her school’s newspaper, a member of her school’s mock trial team, and a part of her school’s travel Model United Nations team. Beyond that, she volunteers her time at her local Teen Court program as a juror and works a job part-time. Rebecca aspires to be a criminal defense attorney. Through CHCI NextGen, Rebecca learned more about policy-making and how to effectively advocate for issues she feels passionate about.
