Rubi Belle Torres is a proud first-generation student from California. Interested in advocacy through political science and journalism, she has worked with public relations companies and has participated in programs such as Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio’s Young Legislators program to gain insight into how policies and media affect her community. With a strong passion for mental health awareness, she is President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness at Edgewood High School, where she aids in educating peers about ending the stigma surrounding mental health and advocates for a safer community. Through CHCI NextGen, Rubi has acquired essential knowledge about support for her community at the government level and is empowered to pursue politics as a Latina.
