Scarlett Lopez Rodriguez grew up in San Jose, California but strongly identifies with her Hispanic heritage. As a daughter of an immigrant mother from Uruapan, Michoacán, she’s extremely proud to represent her heritage through every accomplishment. She is the current president of her school’s environmental club and is deeply involved in journalism in order to shine a light on the issues that the Latinx community faces in their everyday lives. Through the NextGen program, Scarlett learned more about the importance of advocating for her community, because your voice alone is already a powerful tool. In the future, Scarlett hopes to continue seeking more opportunities to advocate for her community and expand her network of future Latinx leaders.
