Hometown: Woodside, New York
School: St. John’s Preparatory School
Sofia Torres was born and raised in NYC. Throughout high school, Sofia has expressed a keen interest in policy-making and law, participating in both The Legal Explores and Student Advisory Council at the Queens District Attorney’s Office and the NYPD’s Youth Leadership Council. At school, Sofia is the secretary of both the Junior Ladies of Charity and StuCo, as well as a member of MUN. Alongside law, Sofia is also passionate about teaching. Sofia volunteers at the Queens Zoo as a Discovery Guide, educating the youth on the numerous critical issues impacting our wildlife. Also, recently completing her internship as a Student-Historian at NYHS, Sofia focused on researching a Cuban-women political group in the 1800s and created a podcast to educate all about their impact. CHCI NextGen allowed Sofia to deepen her governmental understanding and helped actualize her goal of making an impact in her community as a Latina.
