Sofia Villa is a Mexican American student who has lived in Phoenix, Arizona all her life. Sofia is the proud daughter of hard-working immigrants and holds immense pride in her culture. Sofia attends Camelback Montessori and is highly committed to Montessori club as well as her academics. Sofia’s interests lie in the fine arts and film industry. Through CHCI NextGen she was able to find new interests, specifically in making a louder voice for the Latino community. Now, Sofia is confident that she can combine her interests in hopes of sharing her voice and creativity for her community. Attending CHCI NextGen was a huge step outside of Sofia’s comfort zone, but it is a decision she does not regret. Not only has she made long-lasting memories and friendships with Latinos of many different backgrounds, but she has gained a deeper understanding of how underrepresented Latinos are and how important Latino involvement is.
