Yvonne was raised in Compton, California with her two sisters by her parents who immigrated to the United States from El Salvador in the early nineties. She is a first-generation college student who transferred to the University of California, Merced from Long Beach City College in 2020 and is majoring in Political Science. With a focus on Pre-Law and Comparative politics, Yvonne plans to utilize her studies by working for the U.S. government or a non-profit organization that specializes in poverty alleviation and legislation. During her stay at the University of California, Merced she volunteered at the Long Beach Food Pantry which gave homeless residents in Long Beach toiletries and food. Her passion and tenacity come from her resolve to help lift and inspire her community and create a better future.
As a CHCI Intern, Yvonne hopes to learn the ins and outs of the legislative process and use her knowledge to help her community and other students like her.
