Session #1: COVID-19: Addressing Health Disparities

This virtual briefing focuses on the impact of COVID-19 as we continue to navigate the new normal. The briefing will address deeply rooted health inequities and ways to ensure enhanced prevention, access to testing, and treatment for Latinos that are most affected by COVID-19.

Session #2: CHCI Virtual Briefing Series: The Socio-Economic Impact of COVID-19

This virtual briefing focuses on the impact of COVID-19 as we continue to navigate the new normal. Key topics will include the particular challenges faced by Latino small businesses and the workforce, including essential workers and immigrants, and what can be done in both policy and practice to support them and forge a way forward to a recovering economy. This briefing series will feature policy leaders and industry experts who will have a discourse on the socio-economic effects of this historic pandemic on the Latino community.

Session #3 Part 1:  Education & Equity in a Post-COVID Society – PreK-12 Education

Date:   Wednesday, June 3, 2020

This virtual briefing focuses on the impact of COVID-19 as we continue to navigate the new normal. Key topics for the first part will include the role, nature, and needs of the teaching profession in a post COVID-19 phase, and what can be done in both policy and practice to strengthen education while forging a way forward for teachers and students of color. It will feature policy leaders and education experts who will discuss emerging best practices in teaching, adapting pedagogy to the digital classroom, diversity in the teaching workforce, and cultural competence among other topics.

Session #3 Part 2:  Education & Equity in a Post-COVID Society – Postsecondary Education

This virtual briefing focuses on the impact of COVID-19 as we continue to navigate the new normal. The second part on postsecondary education will feature leaders from the public, private, and non-profit sectors who will discuss what community leaders can do to help advance and support success for Latino students in higher education as they navigate safety amidst a pandemic disproportionately impacting them, while trying to build their skillsets and consider their future prospects. The panelists will address a range of issues such as: the future of postsecondary education for Latinos and its impact on the workforce; college affordability; and other needs of Latino students and families in a time filled with uncertainty and financial volatility.
