Wendy was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States at the age of one. She was raised by her hard-working parents in Wichita, Kansas who instilled in her the importance of pursuing higher education to pave the way towards a better future for herself and those to come. As a first-generation American and college student, she became passionate about using the opportunities presented to her to give back to her community. Her commitment to these communities is seen as she has assisted in establishing the Immigration Student Advocacy Organization and a Latinos Lead program at her institution to provide underserved students with a platform to have their voices heard.
Wendy is currently a junior at Wichita State University, majoring in Business Administration with a minor in University Honors on a Law and Public Policy track. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Wendy plans to either pursue a Master of Business Administration or obtain a Juris Doctor degree to work in immigration law. Whatever she decides on doing, she wants to continue advocating for the needs of marginalized communities to create equitable opportunities for all.
As a CHCI Intern, Wendy hopes to increase her knowledge of the legislative process and learn about the efforts prominent leaders are taking to identify the desires of their constituents. Additionally, she wants to establish connections with like-minded individuals in order to empower young Latinos to break boundaries and accomplish generational breakthroughs.
