Born in Pomona, California and raised in Spring, TX, Luis is the proud son of immigrants from the town of Candelaria de la Frontera, Santa Ana, El Salvador. Through the daily effort shown by his parents to support him and his sister’s educational ambitions, Luis has found the endless motivation to lift others in his community towards their goals as well. On-campus, Luis serves on the board of the Central American Student Association. He has also earned familiarity in developing policy for his communities through his time as an Austin City Hall Fellow and Brumley Next Generation Scholar. Outside of campus, he enjoys and finds purpose in working with underprivileged Latino youth and attempting to advance their educational aspirations.
Luis is currently a junior at the University of Texas at Austin double majoring in International Relations & Global Studies and Government with a focus on the international political economy. Upon earning his undergraduate degree Luis plans to attend law school and is considering graduate school for public policy. His ultimate career goals are to work for an international organization focused on international economic development and to serve as a judge on a federal circuit court.
As a CHCI Intern, Luis hopes to develop a strong understanding of the legislative process, as well as gain insight on U.S. international relations, foreign assistance, and migration policy. He looks forward to making indelible experiences in DC that can be translated as an inspiration to others upon his return to Austin, TX.
