ANA HUERTA MORA
Current Position/Organization
CHCI-Walmart Intern
Hometown: Azusa, California
School: University of California, Berkeley
Major: Political Science
Placement: The Office of Rep. Pete Aguilar
Ana was born in Michoacán, Mexico but moved to southern California when she was 8 years old with her mother. As an immigrant and a first-generation college student, Ana began to engage with different local and national organizations as a high school student to increase her and her peers’ opportunities to receive the aid and funding necessary to attend a higher-education institution. She has worked in changing legislation to increase funding and equity in California’s educational system while working with Matriculate to advise high school students in the college application process. At the same time, she has held board positions in Berkeley’s Latinx Pre-Law Society while working full time in her school’s Student Union. Ana is not only focused on achieving the American dream for her family but also helping others achieve the same.
Ana is currently a senior at the University of California, Berkeley where she is majoring in Political Science with a concentration in comparative politics, as well as a minor in Public Policy. Upon graduation, Ana hopes to gain experience working in public policy, immigration, or education while she applies to law schools. Her goal is to use her law degree to work with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to help disenfranchised communities uphold their civil liberties.
As a CHCI Intern, Ana hopes to gain experience working in a congressional office and insight into how the legislative process addresses the needs of constituents. Knowledge and experience that she will then use to create change in her community.
