Rick Tzompa Chimal was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, to Mexican parents. As a first-generation Mexican American and college student, Rick takes pride in his education journey and brings his culture, story, and skills into every experience to represent his family and community.
Rick is a student at The George Washington University (GW), double-majoring in International Affairs, with a concentration in International Politics, and Human Services and Social Justice. He is also a Cisneros Scholar at the Cisneros Institute, founded by Representative Gil Cisneros (CA-31). Rick has previously worked at the League of Women Voters of the United States as a Communications Intern, creating social media content on protester “Know Your Rights” information and drafting other external communications and talking points. Recently, Rick has worked with the Im/migrant Well-Being Scholar Collaborative as a Communications and Policy Intern, where he conducted interviews with researchers and produced reports from researcher-led workshops to share with community leaders, Capitol Hill staffers, and politicians. Outside his professional work, Rick is a Folklórico dancer with GW’s Folklórico Dance Company, where he has danced at a Washington Wizards basketball game and the 2024 White House Hispanic Heritage Month Reception, where he met President Joe Biden.
After graduation, Rick hopes to work as an advocate for education equity while supporting immigrant communities. As a CHCI Intern, he aims to learn about the role Hispanics and Latinos play in the policy-making process that will guide him in a life of public service.
