Hometown: Westlake, Ohio
School: Tulane University
Major: Political Science/International Relations; Philosophy
Placement: Office of Rep. Juan Vargas
Juliana Abeid was born and raised in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, to a Syrian father and a Colombian mother who immigrated to the United States. As the middle child of five and a first-generation college student, Juliana grew up witnessing the sacrifices her parents made to build opportunities for their family, which inspired her dedication to education and public service.
Juliana currently attends Tulane University, where she is pursuing a double major in Political Science and Philosophy with a focus on Law, Morality, and Ethics. She is also double-minoring in Latin American Studies and Strategy, Leadership, and Analytics. At Tulane, she has continued her commitment to service and advocacy through her internship with the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights, where she supports attorneys defending children in the juvenile legal system. She also volunteers with the New Neighbor Project, tutoring individuals preparing for the citizenship exam, GED, and ESL coursework. Her academic and leadership work has been recognized through several honors, including the Foreign Language and Area Studies Scholarship, which supported her study abroad in Brazil. She has also served as Head Delegate for the Model Organization of American States. Juliana is on track to graduate from Tulane a year early before attending law school and pursuing a career in government or law focused on policy, diplomacy, and foreign relations.
As a CHCI Intern, Juliana hopes to gain practical experience in the legislative process, deepen her understanding of U.S. policy and international relations, and build the skills necessary to effect meaningful change in the world.
