Amelia was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. She has been a community organizer in her Denver community since she was fifteen. Working on issues spanning from mental health equity, education equity, reproductive health, and voting rights.
Through her experience as a community organizer, it solidified for her that her passion and drive are in policy work. Growing up with a single mother who did not have a stable income, Amelia saw education as her pathway out of poverty. She is currently a sophomore at the Metropolitan State University of Denver studying Political Science with a minor in Public Policy. After completing her undergraduate degree, Amelia wants to get her Master’s degree in Public Policy with a concentration in education policy. For Amelia and other students alike school, is a way for students to advance themselves out of their current situation. Therefore it is important to Amelia to work on education policy to create equitable educational outcomes for students across the U.S. Amelia’s ultimate career goal is to run for Congress and win. She believes that policy shapes the way society functions, so if she can create equitable policies and be a part of the world of policy, she can help push the world towards a brighter future for the collective.
As a CHCI Intern, Amelia hopes to immerse herself in the world of policy and gain insight into policy advocacy as well as the legislative process. She will take the information and experiences she learned in Washington back home to her community, to inspire and cultivate change.
