Edgar Aguirre
Edgar Aguirre is an Economic Research Assistant for the U.S. Congress. He is especially interested in using data to produce clear, decision-relevant analysis that supports the tax legislative process.
A first-generation college graduate from the Bronx, New York, Edgar comes from a Mexican household, and his upbringing shapes his commitment to expanding opportunity for low-income communities. His research interests focus on inequality and how policy can improve economic mobility and well-being.
Previously, Edgar was a Research Analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he supported staff economists studying household balance sheets and consumer credit conditions, including trends in borrowing, repayment, and delinquency. He has also contributed to applied policy research through NYU Law’s Institute for Policy Integrity, supporting environmental economics work related to climate policy, as well as other applied research in health economics. In addition, Edgar interned at the White House on the Infrastructure Implementation team, supporting efforts related to implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Edgar is completing an M.A. in Economics at CUNY Hunter College and holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Hunter College and a B.A. in Economics from Carleton College. Looking ahead, he plans to pursue a J.D. and a Ph.D. in Economics to deepen his involvement in the policymaking process and contribute through research and analysis.
