Genesis Vargas was born and raised in New York City, Harlem. She was raised by her single mother who immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic around the age of nine. As the first-generation in her family to attend college, she understands the importance of getting an education and giving back to her community. Genesis happily volunteers as an intern at a non-profit law firm in Washington Heights, which predominantly serves people in immigration and litigation. Genesis has always strived to accomplish her dreams and desires, while also making her family and community proud.
Genesis is currently a junior at Lehman College of the City University of New York double majoring in Philosophy and Political Science with a concentration in Ethics and Public Policy. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Genesis hopes to go to Law school to become an attorney that focuses on social justice and human rights. Her goal is to serve people who are experiencing injustice and serving people through the legislative side by working with Congress in the near future.
As a CHCI Intern, she hopes to become more knowledgeable about the legislation component, as well as obtain knowledge of the ins and outs of how Congress works to deliver the essential laws needed to live an equitable life. She hopes to use this experience to better serve her future clients by addressing their needs, desires, as well as to bring a different perspective to make an impactful change for current and future generations.
