Kailleen Perez Garcia was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her parents immigrated to snowy Minnesota from Veracruz, Mexico to provide a better life for her and her four brothers. From a very young age, Kailleen’s parents instilled in her the importance of higher education and hard work because they knew it would open many doors of opportunities that had not always welcomed them.
Kailleen graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is passionate about immigration rights and reform. She has worked as a legal assistant at the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota where she used her research and language skills to advocate for detained individuals. She also studied abroad for a semester in Amsterdam where she volunteered her time to assist refugees and undocumented folks. She plans to attend law school in the near future to be a fierce advocate for her community and others.
As a CHCI Intern, Kailleen hopes to develop as a community servant by gaining a better understanding of the legislative process.
