Hometown: Buckeye, Arizona
School: Buckeye Union High School
Lizbeth Ortiz is a Hispanic, first-generation student who is passionate about driving progress at the heart of healthcare equity, law, and business. She currently serves as FBLA Arizona’s State Vice President of Community Service and Alumni Relations; here, she leads over 8,000 members towards becoming competitive business leaders and community-minded individuals. After high school, she hopes to attend a 4-year university to major in political science and minor in business on a prelaw track. After that, she hopes to attend law school to pursue medical or corporate law. She found this passion by being involved in FBLA, HOSA, WashU’s healthcare continuum institute, and by starting her very own non-profit organization called “The Equity Project” that strives to address systemic disparities in healthcare and policymaking while spreading financial literacy to low-income families and students. Her passion for all of this ignited upon experiencing CHCI’s NextGen Latino Leadership Program because it provided her a unique opportunity to speak with senators, representatives, and other staff on capital hill to emphasize the current issues surrounding healthcare. The family she created here reminded her that she has a support system, friends, and people rooting for her despite their different cultures and upbringings, they all come together as the Latino community to uplift and cheer each other on as they exceed all expectations and barriers!
