2026 Summer Congressional Interns

Monika Miranda

Congressional Intern, Presented by Comcast NBCUniversal
Hometown: Woodbridge, Virginia
School: University of Virginia
Major: Environmental Thought and Practice; English
Placement: Office of Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán

Monika Miranda grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia. The daughter of Colombian and Estonian immigrants, she was raised with a strong work ethic and a passion for helping others. Navigating two cultures while speaking Spanish and Estonian at home gave her a deep appreciation for cross-cultural understanding and shaped her passion for supporting diverse communities.

Monika is a student at the University of Virginia, where she is double-majoring in Environmental Thought and Practice and English and plans to apply to law school this fall. On campus, she is actively engaged in community advocacy. She serves as the Outreach Lead for the Center for Global Health Equity and is also a State and Governmental Affairs Co-Chair for UndocUVA, working on immigrant advocacy initiatives. Monika is also passionate about music and service, combining both as Concert Manager for the Virginia Women’s Chorus. In this role, she recently organized a Women Against Violence Benefit Concert. Through her academic and extracurricular commitments, she has developed a strong foundation in advocacy and service, particularly within Latino communities.

Monika is excited to serve as a congressional intern this summer, where she hopes to deepen her understanding of the legislative process. As a CHCI Intern, her goal is to learn how to better apply her skills on a larger scale and expand her ability to advocate for the communities she cares about throughout her future career.
