Ruben was born and raised in Chicago, IL. Ruben’s parents immigrated from Guerrero, Mexico, and settled in the Pilsen neighborhood where they raised Ruben, who is one of 7 children. Ruben is a senior at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he is majoring in Public Policy with a specialization in Foreign and Global Policy and a minor in Communications. He is a member of the Public Policy Student Association in UIC.
As a CHCI Intern, Ruben hopes to learn the nuances of the federal government as well as build a network to use as a steppingstone to help bring equity to the Latine community and help craft policy that is representative of the Latine community as well as BIPOC communities.
