Tiago Moreno
Congressional Intern, Presented by CHCI
Hometown: Portland, Oregon
School: Santa Clara University
Major: Political Science; Psychology
Placement: U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform
Tiago Moreno was born in San Jose, California, and raised in Portland, Oregon. As the son of Brazilian parents, he witnessed and learned the importance of family and unconditional love. Raised a continent away from his extended family, he learned to see those in his community with familial care and compassion, inspiring him to advocate for all who need help—understanding, as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. put it, that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Now at Santa Clara University (SCU), Tiago is double-majoring in Political Science and Psychology, with minors in Public Health and History, and is a recipient of the Johnson Scholarship—SCU’s highest merit award. He serves as a Senator in SCU’s Associated Student Government and has been involved with both the Northern California Innocence Project and SCU’s Miller Center for Global Impact. He also conducts research, exploring strategies to reduce structural stigma in higher education.
Beyond his campus community, Tiago works for the California Department of Justice and serves on the Alliance for a Safe Oregon board, where he has lobbied public officials on policies to reduce firearm violence. He aspires to earn a dual JD/MPP degree to develop legal fluency and expertise in policy design, ultimately crafting laws that eliminate gaps disproportionately harming vulnerable communities.
As a CHCI Intern, Tiago hopes to develop a refined understanding of federal negotiation, coalition-building, and the reconciliation of competing interests. He aims to apply these competencies to craft policy that meaningfully advances equity and justice for all.
