VANESSA NEVAREZ

Vanessa Nevarez is a proud binational, border-town Mexican-American, Emmy award-winning journalist and news editor. She used her roles at ABC News affiliates, National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), Democratic House Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to build VELA. 

VELA Network is the first Latinx network at the intersection of culture and e-commerce in the southwest U.S. region. Vanessa has been featured on Good Morning America online and Shout Out L.A. Magazine. 

Vanessa is CHCI alumna from the class of 2013 where she worked under the Chairman of the Democratic  House Caucus Xavier Becerra and now serves as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. In her down time she loves mentoring journalism students and building communities with small Latinx owned businesses. She enjoys traveling, visiting new coffee shops, museums and art shows, and she loves to dance.
