Violeta Higuera grew up in Bogotá, Colombia, surrounded by her family before migrating with her mother to the small town of Louisville, Kentucky. After moving to the United States at the age of seven, she developed a deep appreciation for community and became passionate about giving back to those who helped her and her mother succeed. Her previous work with Catholic Charities, where she supported newly arrived refugee and immigrant communities, reflects her commitment to service and advocacy.
Violeta is a student and QuestBridge Scholar at Washington University in St. Louis, where she is majoring in Global Studies with a concentration in International Affairs. She is also pursuing a minor in French and hopes to study abroad in Paris next year. She continues to stay connected to her Hispanic heritage by offering tours in Spanish through the university’s Kemper Art Museum, helping make art more accessible to a broader audience. As a first-generation college student, she values education deeply and serves as a role model for incoming first-year students while balancing multiple on-campus jobs.
Through her CHCI internship in Washington, DC, Violeta hopes to deepen her understanding of the U.S. government and political system so she can better advocate for and support her community. She is grateful for the opportunity to join CHCI and is excited to grow as a leader through the experience.
