Associate Manager, Congressional Internship Program
Jhon Carlos Barrera is a dedicated professional with a background in nonprofit leadership development and program management. As the Associate Manager of College Programs at CHCI, Jhon Carlos is responsible for managing the congressional interns. He uses his expertise and passion to provide a comprehensive internship experience for his program participants.
Before coming to CHCI, Jhon Carlos was the Communications & Strategic Planning Assistant at the Library of Congress’ Division of Internship & Fellowship Programs, which allowed him to develop his skill sets in program management, as well as early-career development training. Jhon Carlos is also an ardent cultural curator that provides a unique and culturally sensitive approach to leadership and talent development centered on uplifting his program participants’ identities and encouraging them to achieve their career goals and positively impact their respective communities.
Jhon Carlos is a first-generation college graduate and received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Florida International University, Miami’s first and only public research university. His strong commitment to uplifting community members is rooted in his identity as a Queer Caribeño-Latino of mixed heritages from the Dominican Republic and Colombia. A fun fact about Jhon Carlos is that he genuinely believes that there is a beat, song, and/or symphony that can be paired with any human experience.
