K.T. Coleman was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, which once served as an industrial hub in America’s heartland. She was raised by blue-collar, working-class parents who instilled strong values of education, community resourcing, and social awareness. As the daughter of a union laborer and a small business-owning mechanic, having a career in public service came naturally, as did a strong work ethic and the generational responsibility to break barriers—starting with becoming a first-generation college graduate.

While obtaining her undergraduate degree at Bowling Green State University, K.T. bloomed into her voice as an advocate, community leader, and champion for marginalized communities, which sparked a desire to think more intently about the world and its problems—and to take action. K.T. pursued a Master’s degree in order to develop the industry tools necessary to create effective policy and improve the quality of life of the working poor.

Through her work in non-profit development, higher education policy, political advocacy, and public affairs—K.T. has developed a well-rounded skill set and a robust network of professionals. This network serves K.T. well in her current role as the Senior Manager of Government Relations at CHCI, where she manages relationships with Members of Congress, and others seeking to assist CHCI in developing the next generation of Latino leaders.
