Marisol was born and raised in Albany, Oregon, located on the ancestral lands of the Ampinefu (or “Mary’s River”) band of the Kalapuya people. However, her roots are in Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico. From a young age, she learned from her parents and siblings the importance and power of education, advocacy, and community engagement.
Marisol is a senior at Oregon State University, majoring in Sociology with an option in Crime & Justice and minors in Spanish and Business. During her time at OSU, Marisol has worked at a Latinx cultural resource center, the Centro Cultural Cesar Chavez, served on the executive board for Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences, and volunteered with the 4-H Extension Outreach Program for Youth Development. Marisol is also a College Assistant Migrant Program alum and a sister of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. Marisol actively works, alongside her colleagues, to create an inclusive and equitable environment for underserved students at OSU.
Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Marisol plans to obtain either a Master’s in Public Policy and a Juris Doctor degree or a Juris Doctor degree alone. Her ultimate career goal is to become an attorney and possibly run for congress or senate.
As a CHCI Intern, Marisol is excited to build a professional network in D.C. and familiarize herself with the legislative process on a macro level in the federal government. She hopes to use her experience as a precedent for her community members and create a path to Capitol Hill.
