Ruth Campos grew up in Manassas, Virginia, where she was raised by her parents and grandparents, who immigrated to the United States from El Salvador. As the eldest in her family, she developed a strong sense of responsibility and a deep appreciation for resilience that shaped her upbringing. Surrounded by stories of migration, perseverance, and community, Ruth learned early on the importance of honoring her roots while creating new opportunities for future generations.
Ruth is currently a student at The George Washington University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in English and International Business. As an English Honors Literature student, her interdisciplinary thesis explores themes of diasporic movement and U.S. involvement abroad. On campus, Ruth serves as the Director of Membership for the Organization of Latin American Students. Her commitment to storytelling and cultural engagement has also led her to present her research at the Leaving and Belonging Symposium at George Mason University. Her involvement within the community expands beyond the classroom, serving as an intern for Culture and Diplomacy at the Embassy of El Salvador, and a volunteer for Kincare Alliance in Washington, D.C.
Motivated by her community and interest in the legal dimensions of global commerce, Ruth aspires to pursue a J.D. and work at the intersection of international business and law. As a CHCI intern, Ruth hopes to expand her knowledge of the country’s legislative and legal systems, learn from leaders in public service, and continue growing as an advocate for immigrant and diasporic communities.
