Alexandra Gulden was born and raised in New Orleans by her parents, Spencer and Maria. As a Nicaraguan American, she enjoyed her city’s vibrant culture and Central American community. Growing up amidst environmental disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and marsh fires sparked her interest in sustainability.
Alexandra will be graduating from Kenyon College in the Spring of 2021 with a B.A. in International Studies and minors in both Spanish and Arabic. With Adelante, her institution’s Latinx student organization, Alexandra has helped create a space for Latinx students to discuss and celebrate their identities. As co-president, she organized campus-wide cultural events and brought speakers such as poets Yesika Salgado and José Olivarez.
Through her internship with LatinasRepresent, during which she met and listened to Latinx leaders and lawyers, she developed an interest in public service. She is immensely grateful for the experiences in community organizing that she gained through local nonprofits such as Our Voice Nuestra Voz and Puentes New Orleans.
As a CHCI Intern, Alexandra hopes to gain skills that will better allow her to serve her community.
