Alexandra Rocha-Alvarez calls Watsonville, California, and its strawberry fields her first home. Alex is currently a rising junior at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Alex has always pushed herself to express herself, achieve her goals, and do right by her community.
At Yale, Alex spends her time studying everything she can. She is pursuing her degree in American Studies, with a focus on visual, audio, literary, and performance cultures, and a concentration in Spanish & Portuguese. Outside of the classroom, Alex has been a peer counselor for Latinx students, a research assistant for the Dean of Humanities, and involved in various productions around campus. As a first-generation and low-income student, Alex understands the importance of education to understanding ourselves and our history, which is why she hopes to someday pursue a career in academia.
As a CHCI participant, Alex hopes to enhance her understanding of the legislative process to better understand how to change things for her community and the world.
