Annia Ward is a Dominican-American born and raised in Washington, D.C. She graduated from The School Without Walls at Foggy Bottom and currently is a junior at The George Washington University studying Organizational Sciences and Entrepreneurship. She is the public relations officer of a student organization at GWU, Alianza, where the mission is to promote sisterhood and community among the Afro-Latinx community. She also is a consultant for a student organization, Community Engagement Consulting where they provide services to nonprofit organizations in D.C.
In the future, she hopes to become an esthetician and own her own esthetics company. Architecture and economic development have always been one of her passions and she is excited to do something in this area during her professional career. Annia wants to further research the intersection between race and financial literacy and engage in valuable efforts to uplift her Latino and the African-American community.
As a CHCI Intern, Annia hopes to familiarize herself with public policies that she is interested in and learn how to mobilize change. She is excited about the exposure she will be receiving working in a congressional office, especially in a Latino space. Furthermore, she is eager to expand her skill set, particularly in writing, planning events, and networking. All in all, she is animate to see the overlap between her interests and civic engagement as well as legislative efforts.
