Misael grew up in Salem, Oregon with his three siblings and was raised by his parents who immigrated to the United States 25 years ago from Mexico. Attending college has always been a dream for Misael and understands the importance of higher education for success in life. It’s a view that his parents share as well, motivating and supporting Misael every step of the way. Misael’s goal is to be able to give back to his parents and support the community that helped him get to where he is now.

Misael is a freshman at Oregon State University where he majors in Mechanical Engineering. Misael is a part of the College Assistance Migrant Program, which helped facilitate his transition to University and support him in his first year. He is a part of the Schools Chapter of the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers. With the help of the OSU STEM Leaders Program, Misael was able to get into a Research Lab where he is a part of the Infant Motion Intervention Project where he is supporting the design of the updated socially assistive robot.

As a CHCI Intern, Misael’s goal is to deepen his understanding of the legislative process and the work that is being done to support Hispanic and low-income families and students in the United States. Misael hopes to be a voice for his community and through his experience as a CHCI intern, be able to help students in his community gain resources and advocate for STEM programs.
