Summer 2020 Congressional Interns
ALEX VALDEZ
Current Position/Organization
CHCI Participant
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
School: University of Notre Dame
Major: Political Science
Originally hailing from Los Angeles, California, Alex lives with his parents and his brother, all proud Latinos. His father, coming from an underserved community in rural Colorado has emphasized, with his achievements, the importance of consistent dedication to one’s community, and his mother, a political worker from Mexico made clear the importance of education. A member of the YDSA, a national political activist group, Alex holds strong beliefs and is an active participant in his local political community.
He is now a rising senior at the University of Notre Dame majoring in Political Science with a minor in International Development Studies. Alex would like to use his knowledge of International development scenarios and find ways that they can be applied to specific situations in the United States. Thus, upon his graduation, he is hoping to work in the urban political sector and work with organizations that specialize in sustainably growing underserved communities and their residents.
As a CHCI participant, Alex is excited to see a different perspective of the congressional process that most people don’t have the opportunity to see for themselves. Additionally, he is hoping he can find like-minded young leaders who he potentially can work with following obtaining his degree.
