Edrei Pena is from the small town of Moselle, Mississippi, and was raised by her parents who immigrated from Mexico and El Salvador at a young age. As a first-generation college student, Edrei is grateful for all the opportunities given to her and hopes to be a positive role model for her younger siblings. On-campus, Edrei serves as a peer mentor to minority freshmen students and Vice President of her honors college minority engagement club, HoCoMEC.
Edrei is currently a junior at the University of Mississippi majoring in International Studies and Spanish with a focus in international governance and politics. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Edrei plans to attend law school to one day become an immigration attorney. Edrei has seen the struggles first-generation immigrants face in the United States and hopes to be able to serve her community in this way.
As a CHCI Intern, Edrei hopes to meet other like-minded Latino students from across the country as well as make new connections. Edrei also hopes to inspire other Latino children from her small community in Mississippi to continue with their education.
